What is a driver’s license application and when must it be made?

The driving license permit application is always made when obtaining a driving license or upgrading a driving license category.

You can start driving lessons even before the driving license permit application, but you need the permit before the theory test. Therefore, it is advisable to apply as soon as possible after registration.

The application certifies that the person obtaining the driving license has no health or other legal impediments to obtaining the desired driving license category. An approved permit is a prerequisite for booking the theory test and progressing in obtaining the driving license. The permit is valid for 3 years.

The driving license permit must be applied for, even if you already have an age exemption permit.

The driving license permit can be applied for in two ways. The conditions and prices differ depending on which method you choose.

• Traditional paper application through an appointment at an Ajovarma service point.
• Electronic application in the Traficom online service (the student must have online banking credentials).
