BE-License

You need a BE license when towing vehicle combinations with a total mass exceeding 3 500 kg and a trailer weighing 750-3 500 kg.

Obtaining a BE license requires passing both a theory and driving test. Driving lessons at a driving school are not mandatory but highly recommended. Depending on the location, you can complete the BE course driving lessons with your own car or the driving school’s car. However, the BE-class trailer used for driving lessons is always provided by the driving school.

When Do You Need a BE License?

You need a BE license when the trailer being towed weighs between 750–3 500 kg, and the total mass of the combination exceeds 3 500 kg.

B/96 vs BE

B/96 extension:
Maximum authorised mass of the vehicle combination: 3 500 – 4 250 kg.
No theory test or vehicle handling test is required — only a driving test.
Category BE driving licence:
Maximum authorised mass of the vehicle combination: 3 500–7 000 kg.
Requires a theory test, a vehicle handling test, and a driving test.
